The client

The L&D Group delivers specialist construction and property services across residential developments throughout the UK, working with a large network of contractors responsible for completing work across multiple sites and plots.

The challenge

Managing contractors across multiple developments involved significant administration and made it difficult to maintain a clear overview of work completed on each plot.

Contractors needed a simple way to report completed jobs while working on site, without relying on paper-based processes or multiple communication channels. At the same time, administrators required accurate, up-to-date information that could be managed centrally and exported for reporting purposes.

The solution needed to be fast, intuitive and accessible from any device contractors were likely to have with them on site.

PilotBean designed and developed a bespoke contractor web application that provides a streamlined workflow for both contractors and administrators.

The application allows contractors to securely log in through their web browser and quickly update the status of assigned work from wherever they are, whether using a desktop computer, tablet or smartphone. The responsive interface ensures the same simple experience regardless of device.

The contractor experience was designed to minimise the number of steps required to complete a task.

After signing in, contractors simply:

• Select their plot
• Choose the relevant job
• Mark the work as complete
• Add any notes where required

To reduce errors and improve efficiency, the application only displays jobs that are currently available for the selected plot, helping users complete updates quickly without unnecessary navigation.

Because contractors often work away from a traditional office environment, the application was designed as a browser-based web app that can be launched directly from a mobile device or tablet without requiring software installation.

This approach provides the convenience of a native application while remaining simple to deploy, maintain and update as business requirements evolve.

Powerful administration tools

Alongside the contractor portal, we developed a comprehensive administration interface that allows internal teams to manage every aspect of the system.
